Unjustified Hospital Charges

I am writing to formally raise my concern regarding certain charges included in my wife’s hospitalization bill, which have subsequently been disallowed by the TPA.
My wife was admitted for treatment following fractures in both hands/wrists, and the hospitalization was medically necessary. I have already paid the applicable hospitalization expenses and other charges as required.
However, I am unable to understand the justification for separately charging the following:
1. Admission Charges – ₹2,200
Why has a separate ₹2,200 admission charge been levied when we have already paid the hospital charges associated with admission, room and other hospitalization services? Admission is an integral part of the hospitalization process and is not a separate medical treatment requested by the patient.
2. Dietician Charges – ₹1,012
A separate dietician charge has been raised even though we did not specifically request or opt for any dietician consultation. If a dietician assessment/consultation is routinely arranged by the hospital as part of its inpatient care, it is difficult to understand why the patient should be separately charged for it.
If dietary advice was medically required as part of her inpatient treatment, it should reasonably form part of the hospital's overall hospitalization/clinical care rather than being presented as an additional optional service that the patient specifically requested.
3. Medical Record Charges – ₹1,265
I also strongly question why the patient is being charged separately for medical records generated by the hospital itself during her own hospitalization and treatment.
These records are created and maintained by the hospital as part of providing medical treatment. I should not be required to bear a separate charge simply for the hospital maintaining records to the treatment for which I have already paid.
The TPA has now disallowed these charges, resulting in a financial burden on me. However, my concern is not merely about the insurance deduction — I would like the hospital to clarify the basis on which these charges were levied in the first place.
I therefore request the hospital management to:
• Provide a clear justification and breakup for each of the above charges.
• Clarify why Admission Charges are being levied separately from the hospitalization/room-related charges already paid.
• Clarify why Dietician Charges were billed separately when the service was not specifically requested by us.
• Clarify why Medical Record Charges are being passed on to the patient for records generated as part of the hospital's own treatment process.
• Review and waive/adjust these charges, considering that they are directly associated with the hospitalization and were not separately requested as additional services.
